So right now I am attending a ladies Bible study with a book called
“Own Your Life” by Sally Clarkson and I really had a hard time digesting the name of the book.
You see my mindset is my life is not mine, yes I can choose to do this or that but my life since I am Christian belongs to God.
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his kneesbefore him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”
Here Jesus tells the man to sell all of his earthly things and just follow him, so does he really own it??? Or is it all God’s and we are just caretakers?
In Matthew 10:39
Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
So finding our life is bad and losing it is good, so do we own it in the first place?
2 Timothy 1:9
He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
Again our life is a holy life but its because of HIS OWN purpose and grace….not because we own it. I don’t own my life when I commit to the Lord and receive him as my King, and He is the only way to eternal life with the father then my life is HIS not mine so therefore the possession of ownership is not mine but HIS. I may own my actions, thoughts, and motions but my life is HIS.
So now we are onto chapter 3 and yes there are good points that she brings forward but again I am not the owner of my life…so we will see how this goes, so far though I do enjoy her writing and her stories are good and helpful, but until this Bible Study I had never heard of Sally Clarkson, so her story and background are unfamiliar to me. So I can’t nor will I make judgement against her – I just tread very cautiously when I encounter a new teacher, wanting to make sure they are informed in the word, that they pray, and that they use the WORDS of GOD in truth and don’t twist them. It’s always hard when very few reviews are there to read over, or stuff on website is done only once a year, if you are being called by God it should be almost like breathing an everyday thing or at least weekly….especially in today’s tech savvy world. So I will continue researching, and making sure what she is talking about a-lines with what is talked about in the Bible. Would love to hear your thoughts if you know this lady’s teachings….thanks so much.
The only reason I question is we are forewarned in
2 Peter 2:1
[ False Teachers and Their Destruction ] But there were also falseprophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
1 John 4:1
[ On Denying the Incarnation ] Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
So I protect my learning, especially since we are told to look for false prophets.
