Verse of Life

I have a perpetual calendar at home on my desk, and today’s verse is just the verse we need to apply to our lives everyday.

Luke 6:27

“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

I think if we truly try to live by these words our world would be so much better off.  There would be less arguing, less hate and envy, life would have meaning and purpose, not just going day to day.  We could strive to make others more important than ourselves.  But lets really pick this verse apart.

Do not judge and you will not be judged.  This is really harsh if you think of all the times you judge with out even knowing you are judging.  For example, the poor person on the street corner asking for a hand out, you have no idea what brought them there yet you can’t see even walk over to say hi without your mind racing about what others will think.  How about the mom trying to juggle a little one, her shopping cart and the kid who is 3 hanging on to the side of the cart screaming his/her head off because they want something they saw and mom looks like she is about to burst into tears yet you just walk by.  How about the person who has tattoos everywhere, earrings and piercings also and you shy away to the other side of the store or look at the floor not wanting to make eye contact for if they did would they see it in your eyes or the expression on your face???  Did you just pass judgement on them without even knowing them?  Do you do this?  Do you sit and people watch and dream of what they do for a living just by the clothes they wear or the car they drive.  Do you go out of your way to look for a reason to pass judgement on others with out knowing them, or what they are going through.   Lunch out with the girls, maybe after work you go for a beer with the boys…how often does the conversation you are having point to someone you don’t know anything about or you just feed information you maybe heard but don’t know if its true.  This my friends is judgement…it is ugly and twisted and creates all kinds of other issues. (lying, cheating, gossip are just a few)

Do not condemn and you will not be condemned.  This is a step up from what we just went through.  This is inserting words like I would never be caught dead in something that hideous, or he killed so many he deserves what he gets, how about I saw it with my own two eyes yet did not see the minutes leading up too what you just saw…yet you are willing to tell everyone you just saw someone steal, hurt someone or worse.  Yet what if there was a child they were defending, or another person???  What if they put it in their purse because someone else told them they could take it???  I think one of the hardest jobs in the world is a judge…they have to weigh both sides, they have to discern between truth and 1/2 truth, and outright lie.  They have to make a choice and go to sleep every night not second guessing if it was the right choice.     Could you do that???  Could you be just one voice???  But God asks us not to be that way.   Not to condemn someone…that way we will not suffer the same fate.

So lets put this into new perspective, what if someone judged you and you found out…would you be enraged?  hurt?  unsure of yourself?  What if society looks down on you?  What if you were judged just because you are different?  What if you are condemned to live a life alone because someone passed judgement on your way of life.  It is not in our hands to judge, or condemn.  It is God’s alone and only He on the last day will do that, but until then what are we doing to be a positive roll model?   I have tried to live as a Christian most of my life (age 8 or so) but there have been seasons where I get downright mean about passing judgement, saying they don’t deserve marriage because it should be between only one man and one woman…Yes this is my CHRISTIAN perspective, but what about those not versed in my beliefs???  Yes I know this country was based in Christianity and it is all over in our laws and buildings, and is it right for another group now to want to take this all away just because they feel offended by it…heck I am offended by 3/4 of what the media is putting in front of young people now a days  but I direct the path of my charges (kids) and those close to me (family) and if we choose not to watch something that is our choice.  Just because it has been part of our history does not give you the right to try to erase it from history…just because you are offended by it.  Just do like we do and ignore it…that’s right look the other way, its not that hard to do in fact people have been doing it for years.  Christians have been and will be persecuted since Jesus died on the cross, nothing is going to change that.  We can all say we are going to try to make it work, yet we are from different backgrounds, different religions, different perspectives yet we are all on one planet.  So there must be give and take, not just take…if want to use a civil union to join as man and man  or woman and woman then give us our sacred word of marriage…which from the time (our beginning) of Adam and Eve is one man and one woman…do I have a problem with civil unions no, I just feel that the word marriage is so seeped into religion I don’t feel it is right to take that away from us.  You cry for separation of church and state yet on marriage it is law that the state provide me a license to marriage when for decades (before the states could see they could charge for it) marriage only ever took place in a church and it was binding.  Then you say we are trying to judge you too harshly, unbending, and yes we maybe that, but my God is unbending, when the Jews his chosen race were taking over the promised land they had to smite out everyone in there path, men, women, children, livestock…there was so much bloodshed.  When we forged our nation we did it again with much bloodshed, when we together as a world came against a tyrant (Adolf Hitler) there was much bloodshed, so many deaths over the years has been because two sides could not find a common ground.  (by the way we Christians are just along for moral support for when the calling of the 144,000

Revelation 7:4

Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
Revelation 14:1

The Lamb and the 144,000 ] Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.

takes place we will be caught up in the clouds)

1 Thessalonians 4:17

After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

where will you be? I feel our nation is starting that same path, we are fighting over what doesn’t really matter instead of what really does…sickness, hunger, homelessness, and more.

Then the last part is: Forgive and you will be forgiven.  Sometimes I feel this is the hardest part of this verse, it is easy to be forgiven but not to forgive, we can hold our little grudge against someone for years, we can make them feel horrible for what they may or may not have done.   But to be a Christian we have to FORGIVE, even if it hurts to do so, we must.  That is why I forgive those who are trying to force me to conform to their thinking, I just can’t change my belief for you, because my God demands me to love one another, but I don’t have to like what you are doing nor do I have to believe it is right.  That is going to be between you and God someday.  You can rant and rave there is no such thing as God to which I say prove me otherwise, show me where He is not (the heart of non believers) and I will show you where He is…EVERYWHERE.
